"This is Now" LP [March, 2004]
reviewed by Riley Clow for CFBX 92.5FM in Kamloops
Most hiphop CDs playing in teenagers' stereos these days are from mainstream artists only pretending to be true to the art. However, Prizm's debut album, "This is Now" might just change that fact for many teenage Vancouverites. While Prizm, still a teenager himself, may not yet claim to represent "true hiphop," his album shows that he is well on his way to becoming a force on the Canadian hiphop scene.
Prizm showcases not only his skilful lyricism, but also his maturity, far beyond that normally seen at his age. "This is Now" is definitely not your average underground CD, as Prizm brings his insightful heartfelt lyrics alongside beats produced by the likes of Fatchicano, Fear, Decline, and Craig Rip.
After recording a plethora of early tracks and receiving constant feedback from local producers, emcees, and hiphop heads alike, Prizm uses "This is Now" to prove to the hiphop community that he has grown up and is ready to meet the game head-on. If you're in the Vancouver area and love great hip-hop, be sure to check out Prizm's album "This is Now." As a whole, I was definitely impressed with this first album, and can't wait to hear the next instalment Prizm has to offer.
