"Surfacing" LP [August, 2004]

Lyrics:
As a lyricist Prizm is definitely on top of his game. Seeing that I am from the Midwest I am not really
familiar with any other Canadian emcees, but knowing a "real emcee" when I hear one, Prizm certainly falls into this category. With witty punchlines and an excellent delivery he's guaranteed to carry any track. The only drawback I could hear in his delivery would be the few times when the words got "jumbled" a little bit. Overall the album "Surfacing" is definitely not lacking in this department.
Lyrical Rating: 8.75/10
Beats:
Everyone knows that tight lyrics can only carry a project so far. Although there are people, such as
myself, that concentrate heavily on the lyrical content most of society is more beat driven. Prizm's
"Surfacing LP" is far from lacking in this department as well. The variety of producers on the LP provide exciting, innovative, and unique tracks that continue to make heads bob track after track. A nice variety of samples and an excellent contrast of light and dark sounds create a nice relaxing vibe for the listener. The only drawback would be the repetitive nature near the end of the album. The first few tracks get the listener bouncing, especially the Johnik-produced single, "Get Funky Now,” but as the album progresses the mood shifts to a rather melancholy state at times.
Production Rating: 7.75/10
Overall:
Overall Prizm's second LP, "Surfacing," has a lot to offer. With a gifted emcee and production team the sky is pretty much the limit. Not to mention the quality of the project speaks for itself, and as anyone in the music game knows that is half of the battle. In my humble opinion this album is definitely worth the
money and time, so if you're reading this review trying to decide on whether or not you want it the
answer is yes.
Overall Score: 8.25/10
